It is the most emblematic place of the waterfront of Santander and it's the departing and return point of our journey.
Here is the base of the Santander Bahia Tours's pier, outside the renowned Dique de Gamazo, space formerly occupied by the old shipyards of San Martin and declared of Cultural Interest (BIC) in November 2001.
In addition to the aforementioned dam and on the occasion of the celebration of Santander World Sailing 2014, the Pump House was restored and converted into a interpretation center accessible to the public. Close to the dam there is an original park, where is the Duna Zaera as stands to witness the World Cup, and currently used as the main viewpoint of the Bay of Santander.
In front of our facilities is located the Festival Palace, emblematic theatre with a multidisciplinary approach (theatre, cinema, music and dance). This cultural centre offers a year round artistic program; conferences, meetings and conventions take place here and the International Festival of Santander (FIS) is held every summer.
From the Festival Palace you can start the walk along the Reina Victoria avenue towards the Palacio de la Magdalena. We will find some of the most stately homes of the city, highlighting the Hotel Real, and several vantage points with excellent views of the Bay of Santander.
In the Cantabrian Marítime Museum, visitors have the opportunity to delve into depths of marine biology, fishing ethnography, history and technology of the Cantabrian and its projection into the world. The museum is equipped with large, modern aquarium with over 3.000 square meters of exhibition and it also has a restaurant with a privileged terrace and sea views.
Puertochico, reference area in restaurants which should not be missed. Here you can enjoy the typical cuisine of Santander overlooking the marine. In Puertochico are the most famous streets to graze: Tetuán, Plaza de Cañadio, Peña Herbosa, Daoiz y Velarde…
The Royal Palace of La Magdalena is located in the Península of la Magdalena, opposited island of Mouro, it was built between 1909 and 1911, by public subscription to house the Spanish royal family. The architects who carried out his work were Javier González Riancho and Gonzalo Bringas Vega, it is set in the place where was the old fortress of San Salvador de Hano, which protected the entrance to the bay.
Less than 500 meters from our pier are Los Peligros and La Magdalena beaches, with quiet waters and all kind of services. From these points we can see the famous beach Puntal de Somo.
